Gilded flowers in the frost.

A round-bodied owl grips a snowy branch and faces straight out, both feet showing. Its plumage is cream, pale grey and white, with a gold edge picked out along the rim of every feather, and the breast is drawn as row after row of small overlapping scallops. The eyes are round and amber, the ear tufts short and slightly tilted.

Behind it stand birch trunks and pine boughs heavy with cones, everything dusted in white. Large gold-orange flowers open at each lower corner and cluster again at the top right, with smaller buds scattered between. A thin gold line runs inside the border, and the panel corners carry printed fixings. The relief look, right down to the snow on the branch, is printed flat.

This is the winter one. It suits a mantel through Yule, a hallway that stays cold, or a wall beside a stack of firewood, and it keeps working in January when the pumpkins have gone. A good gift for someone who marks the solstice properly and wants decoration that lasts past the holidays.
