Three witches move across a golden field, caught mid-step with skirts flying and arms reaching toward one another. Two face away; the one in the middle turns back, hand raised. All three wear tall crooked hats and layered ruffled gowns, hair loose and lit gold from the field behind them. A vast pale full moon sits back there too, hazed by cloud, with bats crossing it. Bare black branches frame the top of the circle and carry small lit jack-o-lanterns, and more pumpkins glow low in the grass at their feet.
The picture is warm at the bottom and cold at the top — sunset gold under the dancers, storm grey above. It is a flat printed panel; the glow is in the artwork, not in any light.
Made for a front door in October, or a mantel where the Samhain candles stand. The three-figure composition reads as a coven rather than one spooky silhouette, which makes it a fair gift for a friend who circles with others instead of working alone.
