The words Kitchen Witch fill the middle of the plaque in a tall serif, Kitchen large across the center and Witch tucked up to the right. Above them slumps a pointed hat with a square buckle on the band. Below sits a little pot-bellied cauldron with a bubbling surface.
Four bats fly in from the corners, a small cat waits at the bottom right, and a beaded ring runs around the outer edge. The plaque is one antique bronze tone throughout, dark in the recesses and bright on the letter faces, like a cast doorplate gone brown with age. That cast-metal depth is printed onto a flat aluminium disc.
It was made for a kitchen wall: over the stove, beside a shelf of jars, or on the pantry door. The single bronze tone stays out of the way of whatever else is hanging there, and it looks right long after October. Good for a friend who cooks by instinct and calls it a spell.
