A snowy owl faces forward with two amber eyes and small ear tufts raised, its white plumage barred with fine black flecks across the wing. It stands on a snow-covered branch. Around it the panel is almost entirely white on white: frosted pines, white blossoms, snow-loaded twigs, two brown pine cones and a pale blue winter sky showing through the gaps. Only the eyes and the cones carry any warm colour at all, so the bird holds the whole composition on its own.

The snow, the feathers and the branch frame are printed to look like carved relief. The panel is flat and light in the hand, whatever the shadows suggest.

The near-white palette makes it easy to place: a pale bedroom wall, a bathroom, a shelf beside candles. Put it up for Yule next to evergreen and it reads seasonal; leave it through spring and it just reads as a bird. Good for a familiar-spirit collector who works with owls.
