A broad tree fills a landscape panel, branches reaching out to both edges and roots spreading below into a shallow bowl shape. Every leaf is a separate teal-green shape with a hard outline, more like a cut pane than a painted leaf. The trunk and branches are dark brown and slightly glossy where the light falls on them.
Behind it the ground burns: bright yellow directly behind the trunk, cooling to orange, then rust, then deep blue out at the corners, mottled like fired glass. A heavy bronze border wraps all four sides with a raised rosette in each corner and a hanging hole punched through it. The leaded-glass look and the moulded frame are printed on a flat aluminium sheet, with no glass and no lead came involved.
Hang it where a lamp or a window sits behind you, since the bright centre does the work of a backlight. It fits a hallway or a landing, and makes a straightforward gift for someone who marks Yule and Ostara by what the trees are doing.
