A black cat sits on the curve of a silver crescent, tail wrapped forward around his paws, head turned to watch something off to the right. The crescent is worked with roses and scrollwork in pewter and white, with fine strands hanging from its lower tip.
Above him a second, much smaller crescent sits in a lilac sky, and banks of pink and grey cloud fill the bottom third. The border is dark and ornate: silver scrollwork, white blossom and eight round opal cabochons that pick up whatever light is in the room.
The palette is pale, so it holds up in a room that is already soft in color rather than gothic. Try it on a dressing table window or beside a bed. It suits a friend who keeps a black cat and leans pastel rather than blood-red, and it works as a Yule present without reading as Christmas, since nothing on it is red or green.
