A grey cat sits on a small scrolled bracket in the middle of a wide panel, tail hanging down past the ledge. Two large bat wings open behind it, one to each side, ribbed and dark with pale membrane stretched between the bones, reaching almost to the frame. The face is narrow, ears back, eyes flat and yellow.

A gold chain at its neck carries a round pentacle disc that rests on the chest. The ground behind is cream plaster gone bad, covered in hairline cracks, dark blotches and patches worn back to rough grey. A bronze frame runs round the edge with big acanthus scrolls at each corner and an ornament at the top and bottom centre. Everything that looks moulded here is printed flat.

The long shape suits a spot above a doorway, a headboard, or a mantel where a square panel would look lost. It leans gargoyle rather than cute. A good gift for someone building a gothic hallway, or a black cat household that likes a little menace.
