Two takes on the same idea: a bat mounted on a framed black panel, like a specimen case with the glass taken off. One style catches the bat mid-landing, both wings folded straight up into two tall points, on a plaque whose corners open out into pierced scrollwork. The other spreads the wings fully across a deeper rectangular frame, membranes ribbed and scalloped, the body hanging head down in the centre.

Both are matte black end to end, frame and creature alike, with a fine woven texture across the flat field behind. The bat is a raised form standing clear of the panel, so a lamp set to one side throws the wing shadows onto the background.

Landscape shaped, which fills the awkward gap over a doorway or a low bookcase where an upright piece will not sit. Good beside old lanterns and iron sconces, and a straightforward gift for a bat person.
