A horned owl faces straight out with a soft pointed hat pushed back off its brow, the brim wide and drooping, a copper rose tucked into the band. Its eyes are round and orange, and the ear tufts push up under the hat. The breast is drawn in fine downward strokes and the folded wing in long overlapping plates.

Everything is worked in two tones only: a cool blue-grey for the bird and the ground, and copper for the flowers, leaves and scrollwork. Copper roses fill the top corners and one large bloom sits at the bottom by the owl's perch. A carved-looking border with scrolled corners frames the panel, though the depth is printed onto a flat surface.
