A wizard is caught in profile with an open book held in one arm and a staff in the other hand, its head crowned with a small ornate finial. The hat has a soft wide brim and a floppy point that falls back over his shoulder, and his beard hangs in combed waves down past the pages. The book is open flat, lines of text ruled across both leaves.
The figure is cast entirely in warm bronze and copper, standing out against a background of thick teal green that looks trowelled on, with copper ivy leaves scattered through it and a gecko climbing near his shoulder. The impasto texture and the metal sheen are printed onto a smooth panel.
