A woman leans into the left of the disc, eyes closed, face in three-quarter profile. Her hat is wide and soft brimmed, tipped down, with a spray of small roses worked into the band. Bare shoulders, a ruffled sleeve, one hand with long nails resting on the rim below.
Behind her a crescent moon rises, its cratered edge catching the light, and the rest of the ground is rough and textured, thick strokes and ridges like troweled plaster with bare branches pressed into it. Everything is the same midnight blue: skin, hat, hair, moon and wall. Only her lips read darker. The words Embrace the Night sit in white script at the left, the single break in the color. The plaster surface and the relief are printed onto a flat panel.
The monochrome makes it easy to place, on a bedroom wall, in a bathroom or at the top of a stairwell, and it does not read as seasonal, so it can stay up past October. Good for the night owl, or anyone who has said those three words out loud.
