The collar outweighs the cat.

A black cat sits upright on a gold dais, tail curled around its front paws, eyes a startling turquoise. Around its neck lies a broad Egyptian collar in red, blue and gold that covers the whole chest, with gold bands at the ankles and a small headdress topped by an Eye of Horus. A ribbed gold sun disc rises behind the head like a halo.

The rest of the disc is packed with detail: two registers of figures making offerings, twin pharaoh masks flanking the base, and rings of hieroglyphs running the full circumference. The palette holds to gold, black and a little red throughout.

Bastet was the household goddess of cats and of the home itself, which makes this a natural above a doorway or beside the spot where the cat actually sleeps. It lands well as a gift for a cat owner with an interest in Egyptian iconography, and it is one of the few designs here that is not tied to autumn.
