A raven perches on three stacked books, claws gripping the top cover. Its body turns to the right, beak parted, one black eye catching the light. The feathers run in long grey-blue rows down the back and tail and go soft and downy at the breast.

The books sit spine out, worn leather with faint gilt tooling still readable on the bands. Behind the bird the ground is a bruised indigo, mottled and cloudy. A ring of ivy and oak leaves runs around the rim in the same pewter grey, twisting over the top edge, with a small clasp shape at the bottom. The depth in the feathers and the lift of the leaves are printed to look like carved relief on an otherwise smooth panel.

It belongs over a reading chair, a bookshelf, or the corner where the grimoire lives. The muted grey and blue keep it usable all year rather than only in October. Good for the friend who has strong opinions about ravens and stronger ones about lending books.
