He came through the wall.
A black kitten pushes his head and both front paws through a hole torn in a white painted panel, claws hooked over the broken edge. The eyes are enormous and copper orange, the whiskers spread wide, and a red hat sits back on his head with the white trim over one ear.
The white paint around the hole is chipped and flaking down to rust, crack lines running out toward the rim. Behind him is flat black, which makes the whole thing read as a real hole in an old sign. Nothing is actually punched out; the torn metal and the rust are printed onto a smooth, complete disc. At the smaller size he reads as a peephole; at the larger one the individual whiskers and the grain in the flaking paint both come through.
Best hung where someone passes close enough to be startled by it: a hallway, a laundry door, the side of a kitchen cabinet. It works for Christmas and keeps working after the tree comes down. An easy gift for a black cat household.
