The moon here is an arch rather than a circle — a tall gold panel of cratered rock that fills the whole back of the sign. A black tree grows up the left side and spreads its canopy across it, the foliage worked in tight clusters like coral. A smaller shrub answers it on the right.
The cat sits on twisted roots in the bottom corner, body in profile, head turned out, its long tail sweeping across the base. Coat, tree and roots are all the same lacquer black; the only warmth is the moon behind and a few gold scrolls in the corners of the frame. Deep shadow is printed under every branch, which is what gives the carved look — the panel itself is smooth and flat.
