The phases run straight down the middle.
White line work on black, and nothing warmer than that. Seven moons drawn with real craters run in a vertical column through the centre, the full one in the middle sitting inside a haze of fine stipple. A wheel of spokes turns around them, divided into twelve segments that each hold a small glyph: an eye, a leaf, a planet, a star. Beyond that, wider rings of dots and eight-pointed bursts spread to the edges, and quarter wheels are caught at the corners as though the pattern carried on past the cloth.
The plainest option here, and that is the use for it. Nothing on the fabric competes with a spread laid across the top, and the white lines stay visible in low light. Good as a first altar cloth, and the sort of plain black square that still works once your taste changes. Stand candles in a holder or on a heatproof dish rather than on the fabric.
