Moon Phases 2027: Every Full Moon and New Moon Date
2027 gives the lunar year an unusual shape. Twelve full moons, which is ordinary, but thirteen new moons, which is not. August receives two of them, and the second one is a Black Moon. May carries a seasonal Blue Moon that most calendars will miss because it does not fit the popular definition. And on 2 August the new moon passes directly in front of the sun for over six minutes.
Below is the whole year, with times in US Eastern. Convert back an hour for Central, two for Mountain, three for Pacific. The dates themselves rarely shift when you change zone, but the late-evening moons can slide to the previous day out west, so check those two columns if you live on the coast.

The Blue Moon nobody will announce
Four ways to hang the 2027 lunar year
There are two definitions of a Blue Moon and 2027 separates them neatly. The popular one, a second full moon inside a single calendar month, does not happen at all in 2027: every month gets exactly one. The older almanac definition, the third full moon in a season that contains four, does happen. Spring 2027 runs from the equinox on 20 March to the solstice on 21 June and holds four full moons, on 22 March, 20 April, 20 May and 18 June. The third of those, 20 May 2027, is a seasonal Blue Moon.

The Black Moon in August
August 2027 opens with a new moon on the 2nd and closes with another on the 31st. A second new moon in one calendar month is usually called a Black Moon, and it is the mirror of the monthly Blue Moon. For anyone who works dark moon rather than full moon, that gives August two beginnings and makes it the most loaded month of the year. Five eclipses
2027 holds two solar eclipses and three lunar ones. The three lunar eclipses, on 20 February, 18 July and 17 August, are all penumbral, which means the moon passes through the faint outer shadow and dims slightly rather than turning red. They are easy to miss and honest sources say so.
The solar pair is the interesting half. On 6 February an annular eclipse crosses South America and West Africa. On 2 August a total solar eclipse runs from southern Spain across North Africa to the Arabian peninsula, with over six minutes of totality near Luxor. Neither is visible from North America. Why thirteen new moons happen
A lunar cycle runs about 29.53 days, so twelve of them come to roughly 354 days and leave eleven days spare against the solar year. Those spare days accumulate, and every two or three years one extra new moon is squeezed into the calendar. 2027 is one of those years. It is the same arithmetic that gives lunisolar calendars their leap months, and the same reason the sabbats and the moons never line up the same way twice.
How to actually use it
Mark the four dates you will really act on rather than all twenty-five. For most people that is two new moons for beginnings and two full moons for release, spread across the year. How many full moons are there in 2027?
Twelve, one in each calendar month, beginning with the Wolf Moon on 22 January and ending with the Cold Moon on 13 December. Because no month receives two, there is no monthly Blue Moon in 2027.
Is there a Blue Moon in 2027?
Yes, but only by the older seasonal definition. Spring holds four full moons and the third of them, on 20 May 2027, is a seasonal Blue Moon. By the popular monthly definition there is none.
When is the Black Moon in 2027?
31 August 2027. August has new moons on both the 2nd and the 31st, and the second new moon in a calendar month is commonly called a Black Moon.
Are the 2027 eclipses visible from the United States?
The two solar eclipses are not. The annular eclipse on 6 February crosses South America and West Africa, and the total eclipse on 2 August crosses southern Spain, North Africa and the Arabian peninsula. The three lunar eclipses are penumbral and very subtle anywhere.
