The brim turned into a village.
Another hat-shaped panel, but the whole lower half has been given over to a village. Crooked houses with steep blue roofs crowd along the brim, every window lit warm orange, a street lamp burning at the right-hand edge and a fat carved pumpkin at the front step. Small pumpkins line the path.
Above the rooftops the cone rises in swirled blues, a pale full moon behind the chimneys and a scatter of small gold stars, with the tip curled over into a tight spiral. The blues are pooled and marbled rather than flat, the way ink spreads on wet paper.
Best hung where you can get close to it, since the fun is in the windows: a hallway, a landing, the side of a bookcase. It is the sort of piece a child will stand and count houses on and pick a favourite. It reads as a winter village as much as a Halloween one, so it can stay up into December. Hangs from a black cord, in one size.
