This owl is painted straight: white plumage barred in charcoal, ear tufts tipped dark, a deep ruff falling over the chest, and two orange eyes fixed on you. Talons grip a bank of snow. The forest behind has gone blue-green with frost, all iced pines and crusted twigs, with small orange berries catching what light is left.
