A black cat sits upright with both front paws resting on an open book, its pages spread flat and covered in fine script. The eyes are hot amber, the ruff is drawn in long curling strokes, and a fine chain around its neck carries a pentacle that glows orange-red at the chest. Its tail curls up along the left side. Behind and around it runs a wide gold filigree border with pentacles set at the sides and vines and small moons worked into the pattern, over a pale dusty background.
The filigree, the glowing pendant and the pages of the book all lie flat under the finish; only the ink is doing the work. Pre-drilled holes let it hang level above a desk.
Made for the room where the reading happens: above a desk, beside a bookshelf, over an altar with the book of shadows open on it. Give it to the practitioner whose familiar sits on the page every time it is opened.
