A grey Victorian house stands dead centre with a pointed tower, gabled roof and windows lit warm orange, one of them upstairs and one over the door. A flagstone path runs from the bottom edge up to the steps. Leaning headstones, low shrubs and three small round-eyed ghosts fill the yard, and bare black trees frame both sides with bats above the roofline.

The whole thing is grey, slate and bone, lit only by that porch glow. The numbers one to twelve ring the dial in pale grey serif with a plank-look border around them, all printed flat rather than cut into the wood.

It is quiet enough for a landing or a guest room and does not shout Halloween, though it is at its best in October. A good gift for someone who watches ghost films all autumn.
