A great horned owl comes in with his wings fully open and his talons dropped, green eyes level with yours. The feathers are painted like foliage: bright green through the primaries, brown and cream across the chest, a green mask over the face with the ear tufts up.

Behind him the whole ground glows lime and gold, as though the sun sat directly behind the canopy, with two bare branches crossing the lower half. The rim is a band of short panes in amber, red and white that sets the green off hard.

Put it in a garden window or over the kitchen sink where there is real green outside to answer it. The coloring suits Mabon and the months either side of it. Good for a friend who watches birds properly, or for anyone who keeps the owl as a messenger rather than just a motif. It also holds its own on a covered porch out of direct weather.
