Sunrays behind a bare skull.
The largest, flattest-fronted piece of the group: an upright rectangular panel with notched corners and a stepped moulded border, like a door panel taken off an old house. The field inside is filled edge to edge with acanthus foliage, rolled volutes and a rosette low at the centre.
Set into all that leafwork is a skull, tipped slightly back, with a fan of straight rays spreading behind the crown like a halo. The skull is the highest point of the relief and everything else steps down from it. One matte black over the whole panel, with fine surface ridges visible up close.
Scaled for a bare wall above a fireplace, a headboard or a stair landing where a small plaque would be swallowed by the space. A serious gift for someone furnishing a whole dark room rather than adding one seasonal piece, and it needs a decent hook and a wall that will take it.
