This Medusa keeps her eyes closed. Her face is pale and freckled with heavy shadow across the lids and a dark red mouth, and she is tipped very slightly forward. Green snakes arch over her brow in a near-symmetrical crown, one at the centre facing straight out, others coiling down over her shoulders. A single thick body loops right across her collarbone.

What sets this one apart is the greenery: broad clover-shaped leaves growing in among the snakes and the hair, dark and glossy, filling the corners. Her hair curls into small tight spirals at the temples. The panel is deep forest green throughout, with a distressed vine border and a rusted outer edge. All of the moulded depth here is printed onto a flat sheet.

Quieter than the wide-awake version, and closer to a garden statue than to a warning. It suits a plant room, a shaded porch, or a wall of framed botanicals. A good gift for someone who keeps both snakes and houseplants.
