A witch takes up the whole quilt, her face painted as a sugar skull: white ground, marigold eyes ringed in petals, a stitched line drawn across the lips. Pink waves fall past her ribs, and the wide black brim above her carries a spray of blush and cream roses.

A raven sits at each side of the hat, one on the brim, one among the rose stems. Behind her a teal crescent hangs in a blue-green sky, candles burn down in brass sticks along both edges, and two pale skulls rest in the leaves at the foot. The pillowcases repeat her face close up.
