A goat's head faces you straight on, horns curling wide and eyes lit amber, with feathered wings spread behind the shoulders. An ornate headpiece carrying a small pentacle sits between the horns. Behind it all rises a tan medallion ring painted in the style of an illuminated manuscript, complete with rows of tiny robed figures and lettering around the rim. The palette is sepia, bronze and dark brown, more old altarpiece than shock value. Feather and fur are drawn strand by strand, and the arch of the horns is echoed by the wing tips on either side.

The design leans occult and ecclesiastical at the same time, which is an unusual mix, so it suits a Baphomet or Left Hand Path altar as well as anyone who simply likes gothic religious art. Best on a dark wood table, where the sepia tones pick up the grain. Keep candles in a holder or on a heat-proof dish rather than straight on the cloth.
