A pale owl fills the disc, cream and grey feathers layered down the breast, ear tufts up, two amber-gold eyes under a hard brow. Behind him hangs a cratered moon, half of it lit gold and half sunk in shadow, on a midnight blue ground ruled with fine radiating lines.

The frame is gilded scrollwork, and set into it are rounded glass beads that shift from cold blue to warm honey as they go round, largest at the bottom and dwindling toward the top. A narrow outer band of red and gold enamel finishes the edge.

Owls carry associations with wisdom and night sight, which makes this an easy piece for a study, a home office or a window above a desk.
