The raven stands on a dark rock, body angled left, beak slightly open. Behind him a huge orange full moon fills the upper half of the disc, craters and all, with a pink and purple sunset banded across the sky and a scatter of stars above it.

The foreground is a meadow of purple asters and lavender with gold centers, painted flat and graphic against the deeper purple of the bird. The whole piece runs on two colors pushed hard against each other: warm orange in the sky, cool violet everywhere else. Clean shapes, no fog, no fine detail. The moon is the largest single element on the disc, and it sets the temperature of everything below it.

A late-summer-into-autumn piece rather than a Halloween one, so it suits a porch wall, a garden shed, or a kitchen that already has color in it. The flower foreground keeps it soft enough for someone who likes ravens but wants nothing grim on the wall.
