She sits in profile with a wooden bowl on her lap, lifting a bite on a fork with one hand and holding a small pipe in the other. The bowl is loaded with stew and dark round berries. Her hair is chartreuse and curls to her waist, her jacket is patterned green ivy, and her skirt falls in glossy purple ruffles. Her expression is entirely unbothered, caught mid-mouthful.
The hat is the centrepiece: broad, plum-coloured, buckled, with a slight droop to the brim. Around the whole circle runs a border of autumn foliage, maple leaves in orange and rust, grape clusters, acorns and coiling tendrils, laid over a pale green ground.
Feasting is the point of the season, so this belongs in a kitchen, a dining wall or beside the table where the Samhain plate goes. Good for a friend who cooks the harvest supper every year and never once ordered in. The green ground keeps it from reading as a Halloween-only piece, and it is small enough for a shelf easel if the wall is full.
