An old tree stands in the middle of a dark ring, trunk splitting into a wide crown of thin bare branches and roots spreading out over cracked ground below. Behind it the circle opens onto a forest lit from deep inside, straight trunks in silhouette against burning orange, the light thinning to yellow near the top.

Everything outside the ring looks poured rather than painted: tan and dark brown flowing into one another in soft lobes, scattered through with small round bubbles and rusty flecks, closer to polished agate than to metal. Tree, ring and molten surround are all printed onto a smooth sheet.
