A large black bird stands in profile on a carved silver plinth, wings folded and its long tail hanging. Behind it a full moon sits between two inward-facing crescents, while the front panel of the plinth is a Gothic window holding its own crescent moon and two red cabochon stones. A pointed arch with pierced tracery and a fleur-de-lis finial rises over the scene on slender carved columns.

Deep red roses, buds and thorny briars climb both side panels over dark grey-green leaves, with loose petals fallen near the base. Two lit black candles stand in tall ornate silver candlesticks, two plain black pillars burn beside them, and smoke curls across the bottom. The ground stays almost black, which lets the silver and the cream moonlight read from across a room.
