A four-point witch knot laid flat across the finger. Four pointed ovals sit on the diagonals, and between each pair a small S-scroll curls back on itself, so the face reads as one continuous line with no beginning. The recesses are darkened, which pushes the raised outline forward.

In the middle, held in a plain raised bezel, is a round cabochon of black obsidian. It is domed rather than faceted, so instead of sparkle it gives one soft highlight that slides as the hand moves. Obsidian is a natural volcanic glass, so the depth of black varies a little from stone to stone. The band is slim, polished and split at the back.

An everyday ring rather than an occasion one. It stacks well with plain bands and suits anyone who wears one dark stone all week.
