A witch sits sideways on the lower curve of a huge crescent, back arched, pointed hat tipped forward over her face. She draws on a long pipe and the smoke leaves in thick violet and pink curls that climb up into the stars. Her cloak is purple and midnight blue and spills off the moon into the cloud bank below.
The crescent itself carries a face, a straight nose and one closed eye, its surface pocked with craters. Stars sit in a teal sky behind her, and the bronze frame has a small flourish at each corner.
Hang it in an east window and the crescent takes the first light of the day. It reads late-night rather than seasonal, so it stays up all year, and it is an easy gift for the friend who is the last one awake in the coven, or for anyone furnishing a very small witchy apartment one hanging piece at a time.
