An orb weaver hangs dead center, held by a fine beaded chain that runs from the top of the panel down past her and on to the bottom edge. The abdomen is bright orange stippled with black spots, the head and thorax steel blue, and eight long legs reach out in a wide star, each one banded pale grey with gold at the joints.

Behind her the ground is dark marbled stone, and around it curls a heavy baroque frame in gunmetal and gold: symmetrical scrolls, small pearls set at the top and bottom, thin gold lines running through the volutes. The bright orange body against all that cold metal is the whole trick, and the depth in the scrollwork is printed rather than moulded.
