A horned owl perches on a rough driftwood cross, wings folded, orange eyes level with yours. Behind it a deep blue star-flecked sky carries two moons - a small grey one to the left, a larger amber one to the right. Below the crossbar, snow-capped peaks in grey-white run out to the edges. The outer ring is dark stone crusted with lichen, with a band of knotwork set just inside it. The bird sits dead centre and everything else falls away behind it.
The whole disc is printed to look like weathered stone and driftwood carving - grain in the timber, chalk in the snow, moss packed into the crevices. What you hang is a flat, light aluminium panel. The two moons are painted at different sizes, which pushes the far one back.
Good on a cabin wall, a covered porch, or the room where the maps live. It suits someone who walks the hills at night, and it reads more mountain-mystic than Halloween. It comes in one size, eight inches across.
