An owl faces forward with both wings spread wide, feathers running from cream through lilac to copper at the tips. It stands on the arms of a broad cross worked in gold filigree and set with small stones. Behind it a deep blue night sky holds a pale moon low on the left and a swirl of cloud. Ivy and lily shapes curl in from either side, and a wide grey-blue band with a beaded edge closes the rim. The whole composition is built around the vertical of the cross, wing tip to wing tip.
The piece is printed to look like carved and painted relief - every feather given a lifted edge and its own shadow, the gold rubbed back where light would catch it. The panel is flat.
A grand, symmetrical thing for the centre of a wall, over a mantel or at the top of the stairs. It fits a home that mixes church-salvage antiques with pagan symbols. It comes in one size only, eight inches across the disc.
