The rim is deliberately uneven, thick in places and thin in others, the way a hand-struck drachma sits rather than a machined disc. On the front Athena stands in a crested helmet with a spear in one hand and a large round shield beside her, a portrait head inside a laurel wreath worked onto its face. An owl perches level with her shoulder, olive leaves behind it.
The reverse is lifted straight from the old Athenian coinage: an owl facing out with its feet planted, an olive sprig and crescent above, three Greek letters down one side and S925 stamped at the top.
