Three ravens hold a broken limb at three different heights, and none of them faces the same way. The top bird has its wings half open and its head turned back over its shoulder. The left bird stands in flat profile with its tail hanging past the frame. The third, lower and nearer, has its beak parted mid-call. A fourth, much smaller bird stands alone on the bottom rail beneath them.

The border is packed with roses, blossom and leaves worked in the same charcoal as the birds, so nothing in the panel has any colour at all — only light on the ridges and black in the hollows. The bark is split and knotted, the ground behind rough plaster. All of that depth is printed onto a flat sheet.

The tall shape suits a stairwell, a narrow strip between two doors, or a gap in a wall of frames. Monochrome means it sits with anything already on the wall. Good gift for the friend who talks about the crows outside their window as though they are neighbours.
